Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS)

  • Coteswood House Pre-School and Day Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS). In other words this statutory framework is published by the Department for Education in 2012 and sets the standards for the development, learning and care of children from birth to five years.

Our Pre-School has always employed traditional teaching methods. Therefore we are able to encompass these into the EYFS within the setting.

The EYFS summarises and describes children’s attainment at the end of the EYFS. Therefore it is based upon ongoing observation and assessment in 3 ‘Prime’ and 4 ‘Specific’ areas of learning.

  • The 3 ‘Prime’ Areas of Learning

    • Communication and Language
    • Physical Development
    • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The 4 ‘Specific’ Areas of Development

    • Literacy
    • Mathematics
    • Understanding the World
    • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Learning Through Play

We are mindful that each child is unique. For example through positive relationships and enabling environments, they will learn and develop through talking and actual doing.

Using the EYFS framework we are able to plan and provide a wide range of child and adult led play, which helps children to make steady progress in all areas of development.

  • Recording Your Child’s Progress

At Coteswood House Pre-School and Day Nursery we have three foundation classes, with a maximum ratio of eight children to one member of qualified staff. For instance the class teacher will oversee the care and development of each child in their class. Therefore as records take the form of observations to assess the current learning needs, the child’s current stage of development, and how best to support the child in their next stage of learning.

These records are private and confidential.

We operate an open door policy to all of our parents, whereby staff are available to see parents to discuss any issues or concerns.

In conclusion please do come in and enquire.
